Pianos were in fashion for the rich and famous quite some time back - when they were being imported from abroad and placed in the lavish drawing rooms. Almost all old Bollywood movies had a piano driven song in the course of the film. Those were the times when pianos were in some demand and that led to growth and availability of people trained to repair pianos in India. Things however changed with the marriage of electronics with acoustics. Keyboards started to gain prominence - they were cheaper, many times portable and availability was never a concern.

People today conduct piano repairs more out of familiarity with the machines at some point in time of their lives and not because they possess requisite skill. Very soon, piano repairer in India will become extinct in India; except for a handful who would perhaps continue to do so for the passion of the piano.
